I believe in a woman’s right to her own body. Whether or not you, a man or woman, believe in abortion, I believe every woman should have the option. I am not saying that women who are pro-choice have to get abortions. I am not saying women who are pro-life have to get abortions either. I am not saying that I, a woman, would get in an abortion if I was in a situation where abortion was an option, but I want to have the option to have an abortion. I want all women to have that option regardless of their beliefs.
In terms of when an abortion can be given there has to be rules and guidelines made by healthcare professionals, not politicians. The health of the woman in a situation where she is considering abortion should come first, because yes, there are and can be consequences to both the mind and body with an abortion. I believe there should be a national regulation on when an abortion can be last administered with exceptions for medical emergencies.
What I believe is that a fetus is a fetus and not a human with full rights until he or she has left the womb, because a fetus is attached to a woman’s body. Giving a fetus more rights than the woman it belongs to is like giving, for example, an organ more rights than the body it belongs to. You may not believe that is the case, but that is how I view fetuses. I am sorry if I offended anyone with that statement!
Even if you do not believe in abortions in general, I believe there are cases where abortions should be available to women regardless of political or moral stance in a community. The first and most important is when the health of a woman carrying a child is in jeopardy due to carrying the child, and the woman and her healthcare professional view an abortion as an option for potentially saving a woman’s life. The second is when a woman becomes pregnant after being raped. If she does not wish to carry the child, then she should have the option of an abortion.
I believe regardless of your morals, beliefs, and/or political stance any person should have the right to choose.
